Tour of Historic Churches - Day 272






Join the Dillon Historical Society for the second "Tour of Historic Churches in Dillon County". Next weekend 13 churches will be open for touring on Saturday from 9am-5pm and Sunday from 2-5pm. Maps will be available at each church as well as the Dillon County Chamber of Commerce. Churches on the tour are:
  • Latta Presbyterian, Latta
  • St. Barnabas Episcopal, Dillon
  • St. Louis Catholic, Dillon
  • Manning Baptist, Dillon
  • Hazy Grove Baptist, Hamer
  • Kentyre Presbyterian, Dillon
  • Carolina Presbyterian, Little Rock
  • Dothan Bethea Family Methodist, Dillon
  • Main Street Methodist, Dillon
  • Latta Baptist, Latta
  • Pee Dee Presbyterian, Dillon
  • Catfish Baptist, Dillon

It's time for the fair! - Day 271

In case you  haven't heard, the fair is coming to town! Opening Wednesday, October 3rd and running through the 13th, be sure to plan a trip to enjoy all of the fair fun. There will be educational agricultural exhibits, demonstrations, a petting zoo, fun rides, a tiger show, pig races, and of course, fair food! There will also be an antique tractor show, a magic show and a demonstration given by the SC Master Gardner Program. Monday through Friday the fair opens at 5pm, Saturdays at noon, and on Sunday, 1pm. You can save on your tickets by purchasing them online in advance here.There will be 11 days of fair fun so enjoy it while you can!

Living History Reenactment - Day 270


 

The 54th Massachusetts Regiment, commonly known as The Men that Made History, will be brought to life tomorrow from 10am-5pm. The reenactment  will be held on Irby St. and 410 Hemingway St. The event is free and open to the public. Keep Florence Beautiful Brew Fest - Day 269





The second annual Keep Florence Beautiful Brew Fest will be held on Saturday evening at Roseneath Farm on Cherokee Road. The prices are $40 for an alcohol ticket and only $20 for a non-alcohol ticket. You can order your tickets online today by clicking here. The Brew Fest is held to support Keep Florence Beautiful and their upcoming initiatives to keep our community at its best. There will be plenty of beer to sample with live music and a pig pickin'. Enjoy an evening of fun from 3-7pm.

Grand Opening of The Clay Pot Coffee Shop - Day 268

Don't miss the official grand opening for The Clay Pay Coffee Shop on Friday! At 11am join the community for a chamber ribbon cutting ceremony and mural dedication. Artist Robert Garey created the mural that decorates the outside of the Coffee Shop and it will be dedicated to the City of Florence. If you haven't been able to get to The Clay Pot, this is a great opportunity for you to try their coffee and other treats.

'Thursdays on College' - Day 267

Hartsville Thursdays on College Concert Series  


Don't  miss 'Thursdays on College' this week on East College Avenue in Hartsville. On Thursday, hear Cumberland Collective, an artist collaborative, from 5:30-7:30pm in the 100 block of E. College.  The concert series will offer childcare by Nana's PlayZone for just $10, which includes pizza and a drink for your child. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the concert as well. Don't miss an evening full of fun and music!

Mallarmé Chamber Players - Day 266


On Saturday afternoon at the FMU Performing Arts Center, hear the Mallarmé Chamber Players in the Black box. Tickets are $18 and the performance begins at 2pm. The Mallarmé Chamber Players performs programs that are distinctive and diverse within an intimate setting. The ensemble of professional musicians is based in Durham, NC and was created in 1984.

Chamber Music: The Balkan Quartet - Day 265








This evening at the Art Trail Gallery you can hear the Balkan Quartet as part of the Chamber Music Series. The performance will begin at 5pm with a reception following the performance. Admission is $10 and tickets will be available for purchase at the door. The Balkan Quartet is the Quartet in Residence at the Georgia Perimeter College.

Koresh Dance Company at the PAC - Day 264



Mark your calendar for this performance now!  Philadelphia's Koresh Dance Company will be at the FMU Performing Arts Center on October 11th for one night only. The Company is known for their powerful stage presence and high-energy style. The troupe was founded in 1991 by choreographer and artistic director Ronen Koresh. They offer a blend of ballet, modern and jazz into one exciting show. The Company offers something for everyone, so get your tickets from the PAC box office before you miss your chance to see this renowned Company in Florence.

Gun and Knife Show - Day 263


Land of the Sky Gun & Knife Show will be at the Florence Civic Center this weekend. They will have a hug selection of handguns, knives and other items for the sportsman and hunter in your life. Don't miss the show Saturday from 9am-5pm and Sunday 10am-4pm. Children 12 and under are free and admission for adults is just $7.

Please note: For your safety, please ensure all firearms and magazines are empty before entering the show. Always point your weapon in a safe direction. Present your firearm to the officer on duty and he will cable tie it to render it inoperable. If you bring a loaded firearm or magazine into the show, you will be refused entry and may be subject to prosecution. You must be 18 or older to purchase, sell or handle a rifle or shotgun and 21 or older to purchase, sell or handle a handgun.

The AMAIZEING Race at Triple R Farms - Day 262


Triple R Farms will kick off opening day of their corn maze and pumpkin patch on Saturday morning with a 5k run/walk. The race will benefit the West Florence Cheerleaders. The race begins at 8:00am and you can register online here. If you don't get the chance to preregister, you can still register Saturday morning. The registration fee is $30 and the fun run for the kids is free. After the race, enjoy hayrides, face painting, gem mining, t-shirt tie-dyeing, and the corn maze, of course!

New Harmonies exhibit at BCAC - Day 261

The opening reception for New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music will be held in The Gallery of The Black Creek Art Center in Hartsville on Thursday. New Harmonies is a traveling Smithsonian exhibit that explores Americans' creative expression through music. You can hear different types of music represented in the exhibit like blues, country western, folk, and gospel. Gallery hours are Tuesday - Thursday, 10am-1pm and 2-5pm. Friday from 10am-2pm and the 1st Saturday of the month from 10am-1pm.

Sports Logo Painting Night - Day 260



Thank goodness football season is finally here! Who are you cheering for? Are you a die-hard fan? If so, bring your favorite team's logo to Railroad Junction tomorrow for Sports Logo Painting Night. Paint a USC masterpiece or some fabulous Clemson artwork. Of course it doesn't have to be South Carolina specific, or even a college team for that matter. You can use any sports logo for the sports enthusiast in your life. This class is for both men and women and experience is not required. This class is for adults only and costs $20. If you let Mary at Railroad Junction know ahead of time, she will have your team's logo ready for you on Wednesday. If not, just bring something that has the logo on it with you. This class should be a fun one!

All That Jazz - Day 259




Join the Pee Dee Speech & Hearing Center for a night of All That Jazz! Next Thursday at the FMU Performing Arts Center, enjoy a live jazz band, heavy hors d'ourves, special wine and beer, as well as a silent and live auction to benefit the Pee Dee Speech & Hearing Center. This is the PDSHC's primary fundraiser for the year and will support the center's mission to provide speech and hearing services to Pee Dee and Horry County citizens. Tickets for the event are $50 per person and you must be 21 or older to attend. If you have any questions about the services offered, or about the All That Jazz event, please call 843.662.7802. All-Steinway School Initiative Gala at Coker College - Day 257


Join Coker College Sunday afternoon as they celebrate their progress toward becoming an All-Steinway School! The performance on Sunday begins at 4pm and costs $25 for adults, $7 for students. The performance will be held in the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center.

Temptations Revue - Day 256






Enjoy the smooth sounds of My Girl and Just My Imagination during Glenn Leonard's Temptations Revue! The concert will be held at the Marlboro Civic Center on September 20th at 7:30pm. Opening Day at Pim Farms - Day 255





It is starting to feel like fall around here and what better way to get into the season than with a great fall farm festival! Join Pim Farms this Saturday for fall fun with wagon rides, cow train rides, corn hole, horse shoes, duck racing, and farm animals. One of the coolest sights to see, or try to get out of, is the Coker College Cobra Maze! Musical entertainment will be provided by Coker College students and tickets are just $7 for kids 12 and up, and $6 for 4-11. Kick of fall with Opening Day at Pim Farms from 10am-9pm.

Bike with a Park Ranger - Day 254



On Saturday, you can ride through the Sandhills and the Lynches River wetlands with a Lee State Park park ranger! The ride will be 5 miles on the loop road, which is a dirt and gravel road built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s! Riders must bring their own bike, preferably with mountain bike tires, a helmet, sunscreen, water, and snacks. The riders will meet at the Environmental Education Center at 9am Saturday. Children must be at least 8 years old and those participants 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Please call Lee State Park today to register for Saturday's park ride at 803.428.4988. There is no registration fee so grab your bikes and hit the trail!
