Kreative Kids Crayon Batik - Day 89



Kreative Kids is such great opportunity for your kids to express their creative side at Railroad Junction. Your child will  learn to create a Crayon Batik masterpiece in this fun class on Tuesday, April 3 from 5:30pm - 7pm. Jacob Will at Central United Methodist Church - Day 88




Today at 12:30 bass-baritone Jacob Will will perform at Central United Methodist Church as part of the Lenten mid-week concert lineup. The concert will be held in the sanctuary and is free and open to the public. An experienced concert artist, Mr. Will has been featured with orchestras throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Welding Rodeo - Day 85




Have you ever been to a welding rodeo? If not, your chance to go is coming up on Saturday! Florence Darlington Technical College presents their 3rd annual Welding Rodeo Sculpture Competition on March 31st. The competition will have 10 teams, 5 professional teams and 5 school teams, competing against each other and the clock to create sculptures from donated steel scraps. The theme of the competition is patriotism and the sculptures will be auctioned off at the end of the day to benefit funds for welding scholarships. 

Throughout the day, you can also enjoy the Palmetto Cruisers car show, a rock climbing wall, food, silent auction, music, and lots of fun for the entire family. More info...

Atlantean Trio at the Gallery - Day 83




On Sunday afternoon join the Atlantean Trio at the Art Trail Gallery for a performance and reception. The performance will begin at 5 pm and tickets are $10 at the gallery or at the door. The piano trio was formed in 2005 by music faculty members at UNC Wilmington. Their name came from UNCW's location, near the Atlantic Ocean. The members of Atlantean Trio are Richard Thomas, Barry Salwen, and Abigail Van Steenhuyse. Don't miss the virtual memoir, part of the Joe Stukes History Series, 'Ike and the Cold War' today at the Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation Library. The event is presented by Friends of the Florence County Library and Stiffel Nicolas. There are two chances for you to experience 'Ike and the Cold War' today, 3pm and 6:30pm in the Joe Stukes Meeting Room.

Family Easter Festival - Day 81



Have you taken the kids to an Easter egg hunt yet? If not, you can this Saturday morning at the Family Easter Festival. The egg hunt begins at 10 a.m. and is for ages 1-10. There will also be Easter crafts, face painting, hot dogs, popcorn, snow cones, and a bounce house.The festival will be held at the Effingham Presbyterian Church and is completely FREE! Arts International - Day 80





Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 31st, for a celebration of arts at Francis Marion University. The annual event will take place from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and will offer visual and performing arts for the entire family. Arts International is a culmination of the FMU Arts Alive celebration and the Pee Dee International Festival. The event will offer a variety of performances at different locations on the FMU campus with food vendors representing different countries. There will be a large art show going on throughout the day, as well as unique pottery, woodwork, stained glass, jewelry, metalwork, and photography for sale. Admission is FREE! More info...

Heart Ball of the Pee Dee - Day 78


The 2012 Heart Ball of the Pee Dee is just around the corner. Join more than 350 leaders of the Florence community to help raise funds that reduce the disability and death from the nation's no. 1 killer cardiovascular disease.

This black-tie affair takes place on March 24th at the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology, and will begin with a champagne reception at 6:30pm. Festivities include a live and silent auction, and live entertainment from the band Jumpstart. Phineas and Ferb are coming to town! - Day 75



If you have young kids then you've probably heard of the cartoon Phineas and Ferb, or at least heard their catchy theme song! And if you haven't, I'm sure your kids probably know all about the adventurous step-brothers. The show will come to life onstage at the Civic Center on March 24th and offer two show times. 

Phineas and Ferb are out of school on summer vacation and will set out a big adventure, I'm sure will include pestering their older sister Candace. She will join the boys on stage along with their pet platypus Perry, a.k.a. "Agent P", as they attempt to do it all before the end of summer vacation.

'Jason and the Argonauts' - Day 74






'Jason and the Argonauts' is coming to the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center on March the 22nd! This is a great kid-friendly show, suitable for 3rd-8th grade. The show will start at 6:30pm on the main stage and is a modern telling of the ancient Greek myth. This show has traveled around the world and received rave reviews and many standing "O"s. It should be a great experience for families! Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children. More info...

South Carolina Stalwarts exhibit - Day 73


Carl Blair & Laura Spong's exhibit at the Florence Museum opens today! This exhibit of contemporary abstract paintings is co-curated by Wim Roefs of the if ART Gallery in Columbia, SC. These two artists are very well known throughout South Carolina. Both artists have works in the State Art Collection of the South Carolina Arts Commission and both are featured in the new exhibit Abstract Art in South Carolina: 1949 - 2012 at the State Museum. It is very cool to have their work here in Florence and it will be on display until May 27th.

An opening reception for South Carolina Stalwarts will be held at the Florence Museum on Friday evening, March 16 at 7:30 pm; it is free and open to the public. More info...

The Florence Little Theatre will be rocking out Thursday night! The March of the Bands, a concert to benefit the Florence Little Theatre, will begin at 7:30 and feature local bands such as The Blue Dogs, Machine Funk, Morgans Road, The Woody's, Tastes Like Chicken, Parker DeWitt & Friends and more. Silly Peter Rabbit! - Day 70


See the story of Peter Rabbit unfold next Saturday at the Florence Little Theatre!

Silly Peter Rabbit! His brothers and sisters always try to keep him away from trouble. His mother warns him about going into Mr. McGregor's garden but he won't listen. He gets trapped inside the garden fence and barely gets out in time. If that wasn't enough excitement, Cousin Benjamin comes over and calls Peter a chicken. Peter HAS to go back to the garden now! You can bet they'll get out safely, after they learn a valuable lesson!

Pee Dee Artisan's Market - Day 69


There are so many great things happening at the Civic Center this weekend (Senior Expo and the Blockbuster Showdown) but I'm already looking forward to next weekend! The Spring Pee Dee Artisan's Market will be held next Saturday (3/17) from 10am until 4pm. The event will feature premier artisans that are truly talented exhibiting their unique creations. Shoppers will find things like original paintings, photography, sculptures, clothing and more. You can even drop your kids off with Wink Pottery and let them paint while you shop! Admission is free so come out and support your local artisans.

Not your typical puppet show... Day 68




The Cashore Marionettes will present two shows on Saturday at the FMU Performing Arts Center. The first, Simple Gifts, will be at 2pm and Life in Motion will be at 7:30pm. The Cashore Marionettes have redefined puppetry with their graceful movements and unmatched humor. Simple Gifts is a series of touching portrayals and poignant scenes from everyday life set to stunning music by famous composers. Life in Motion will take the audience on a journey that celebrates the richness of life.

FMU Artist Series...Kirsten Chávez - Day 66



The Francis Marion University Artist Series presents mezzo-soprano Kirsten Chávez. Known for her luscious and velvety tone, Chávez is considered one of the most riveting and significant young artists performing today. During the 2010 - 11 season she was heard as Maddalena in Rigoletto with The Metropolitan Opera and with the Dallas Opera, as Carmen at the Arena di Verona in Italy and at Central City Opera.

Kirsten will be performing at the FMU Performing Arts Center this Thursday at 7:30 pm.

Senior Life Expo - Day 65


It's time for the 17th annual Senior Life Expo this Friday and Saturday at the Florence Civic Center. This 2-day event will be jammed packed with entertainment for the baby boomers and retirees. 'The Kitchen Witches' - Day 64


I can only imagine how entertaining this production is going to be. Here's the story: two "mature" cable-access cooking show hosts that have hated each other for 30 years will be on the same TV show at once! Ever since one's ex-boyfriend married the other, there has been tension between these two culinary gals. The show becomes a competition between the ladies and ends up being a wild cross between Martha Stewart and Jerry Springer. The production is running at the Florence Little Theater March 2-10th and will give you a good laugh.

Elephants, and tigers, and clowns..oh my! - Day 62

Get your garden ready for spring! - Day 61




The 13th Annual Pee Dee Home and Garden Workshops will take place on Saturday, March 10th, at the Clemson Research and Education Center in Florence. The workshop will offer 8 different breakout sessions with a wide variety of topics. You will have the opportunity to learn about combining bulbs with perennials, annuals, citrus plants, vegetables and much more. There will also be a plant sale throughout the day.Spring is definitely in the air so get your green thumb ready!
