Ladies Night Out! - Day 152





Gather up your girlfriends for a Ladies Night Out at Railroad Junction! Tonight from 5:30-7:30pm paint a masterpiece while enjoying your time out with friends. There is no painting experience necessary and the theme for tonight's painting will be "Painting Animals". There is a $15 charge to cover materials and you need to RSVP on the Railroad Junction Facebook page, or by calling Mary at 843.496.1670.

Mark Wayne Hagood Concert - Day 151





At the Art Trail Gallery on Friday you can hear Mark Wayne Hagood performing some of your favorite country outlaw classics! The performance is from 6:30-8:00pm. You will really enjoy Hagood covering the music of country music legend Waylon Jennings. Admission is FREE!

Guided Canoe Excursion - Day 150





This Saturday you can enjoy a guided canoe excursion down Lynches River for free! The 5 mile guided paddle starts at the Lynches River County Park and ends at the Hwy 52 boat landing. If you are interested in this guided canoe ride, you must pre-register and choose a time of 10am or 2pm. There can be no more than 2 people in the boat, and at least one must be 18 years old. Kids ages 5 and up weighing at least 50lbs can also join! Space is limited, so don't miss out on this chance to canoe for free with Lynches River County Park.

RedWolves Home Opener - Day 149




The Florence RedWolves kick-off their 2012 season tomorrow evening at 7:30 against the Fayetteville Swampdogs. The RedWolves play at the American Legion Field off of E. Palmetto. General admission tickets are only $5 and youth tickets are just $4! RedWolves games are fun for the entire family and on Tuesday they will be giving away Carolinas Urgent Care magnet schedules. And you could win $100 Food Lion Gift Card!

The Florence RedWolves are a college summer baseball team in the Coastal Plain League. The Florence baseball team relocated from Raleigh, North Carolina, where the team was called the Raleigh RedWolves. The RedWolves began their baseball tradition in Florence in 1998.

National Cemetery Memorial Day Program - Day 148




Tomorrow at the Florence National Cemetery a program to remember and honor all current and former military personnel will be held. Retired Lt. Gen. Charles W. Bagnal will be the keynote speaker for the event. Parking is provided, but on a first come, first serve basis. The program will begin at 10am and will participate in the national moment of remembrance at 3pm.

Run for the Heroes - Day 147





Before you start your grillin' on Monday, you can run or walk in the St. Anthony Parish Run for the Heroes! This run/walk is a 5k/10k event that will leave out of St. Anthony Catholic Church parking lot at 8:00am. You can still register for the event online by visiting the website below. The proceeds from the event will benefit the Parish School and the American Red Cross. Packet pickup and registration is at 6:30am, with a special Memorial Day Military Tribute at 7:30am. The race begins at 8:00am and after you cross the finish line you can recharge with a "Red, White, and Blue" pancake celebration.


Overall male and female awards will be given as well as age group winners.


The registration fees for the race are as follows:
Individual - 5K & Walk $25; 10K $35
Military - 5K & Walk $15; 10K $25
Walk Only: Individual - $25, Family - $40

Fundraiser for local troops - Day 146





Local troops in the 133rd MP Company from Timmonsville will be returning home from deployment later this year. You can help support our troops tomorrow by purchasing your lunch from the VFW. Your spaghetti plate will help raise money to support the Unit's coming home ceremony. There will also be a silent auction. Spaghetti plates will be available at the VFW in Florence for dine in or take out tomorrow, May 26th, from 11:00am-3:00pm. The cost is $7 per plate. The VFW is located at 236 Greer Road in Florence.

Charity Golf Tournament - Day 145





A golf tournament for the Big Brother Big Sister organization will be held tomorrow, May 25th, at Traces Golf Club on Southborough Road in Florence. The entry fee is $75 per person and includes your cart fee, green fee, a bucket of practice balls and lunch. The activities will start at 12:30pm and there will be door prizes and a special event hole! You can sign up on Friday, but if you would like to pre-register today, just call the Big Brother Big Sister office at 843.662.7081. Single players are welcome as well as teams.  Kick off your Memorial Day weekend on the green and benefit a great charity at the same time!

'War Bonds' - Day 144




War Bonds will be at the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center on May 26th at 7:30pm. War Bonds: The Songs and Letters of World War II presents a wonderful and sentimental journey through the challenges of war. The cabaret type show includes actual letters from veterans of WWII and over twenty songs from the era. The show will leave you with a feeling of nostalgia and is a family friendly history lesson for all ages. Tickets range in price, but start at just $15. The Flute Man - Day 143





On Saturday at 3pm you can hear The Flute Man at the Art Trail Gallery. The cost of admission is FREE and he will playing Christian music. Jim DeBerry, The Flute Man, is a graduate of South Florence High School and will perform a very enjoyable concert!


Arrive to the Art Trail Gallery before the concert at 2pm to see a demonstration from Jane Madden on playing with paper. The cost of the demo is free as well. You can spend this Saturday afternoon at the Art Trail Gallery!

The Southeast Classic Auto Fair will take place at the Pee Dee State Farmers Market this weekend. Join the fun on Friday and Saturday from 8am-6pm. The auto fair will feature classic cars and trucks from different decades. There will plenty of snacks and treats available for purchase from the farmers market. Ever heard of Grease: The School Version? Well this weekend you can jive down memory lane with your kids and not have to worry about the grown up storyline! The Florence Little Theater presents Grease: The School Version tonight at 7:30pm, tomorrow at 3pm and 7pm, and again on Sunday at 3pm. Tickets are only $5 at the door and you will enjoy the classic songs from the original version like We Go Together, The Hand Jive, Summer Nights, and many more. May Fly Air Show - Day 138






The May Fly Air Show returns to Florence this weekend! Saturday and Sunday you can find a great lineup of entertainment in the sky. Don't miss the Black Diamond Jet Team, Big Air Insanity, Oregon Sky Dancer, and more. The family festival will be especially entertaining for the kids with inflatables and great snacks at the food court. There will be airplane and helicopter rides, military war birds to see, and a lineup of classic automobiles. Admission is FREE for Children 12 and under and FREE for those with Military I.D.s. Admission for those over 12 are just $15 dollars, but if you stop by Piggly Wiggly you can purchase discounted tickets for only $12 each! Everything will be taking place at the Florence Regional Airport Saturday from 9am-5pm and Sunday 10am-5pm. Don't miss this high-flying weekend fun!

Strawberries! - Day 136






Strawberries, strawberries, and more strawberries! Be sure to take the whole family over to McBee for this fun festival on Saturday! From 10am- 4pm you will be able to pick strawberries, enjoy wagon rides, and hear live entertainment. There will be inflatables for the kids along with face painting and a strawberry dessert recipe contest! It looks like the weather will be perfect for some homemade strawberry ice cream, too. Enjoy everything strawberry at McLeod Farms in McBee on Highway 151 South.

Racin' Rubber Duckies - Day 135






Will you pick a winner? Find out at the Florence YMCA on Wednesday, May 16th. The race starts at noon and proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Partners with Youth and Families Scholarship Fund. This benefit directly helps our community by supporting Y programs. You can adopt a rubber duck for just $5 or 5 ducks for $20! If your duck floats the fastest, you will win $400! Second place will win $200 and third place wins a summer family membership to the YMCA! There is no need to be present to win so go ahead and try your luck with the rubber duck race!

House of Hope benefit concert- Day 134

Richard Petty Driving Experience - Day 131



Ready for a thrill ride? Saturday morning at the Darlington Raceway you can experience speeds of up to 150 mph! The Richard Petty Driving Experience will take place from 7:30-11:30am and you can ride along on the track "Too Tough to Tame!" The cost is $109 dollars for a priceless experience. Teens can ride along for just $29 with a purchased parent ride along. This once in a lifetime experience will take place just hours before the drivers in the Bojangles' Southern 500 start their engines. Be sure to buckle your seat belt, it's sure to be a wild ride!

Darlington Car Hauler Parade - Day 130





Kickoff the NASCAR weekend tomorrow evening with the Darlington Car Hauler Parade and festival! The fun begins at 4pm in the Florence Civic Center parking lot with live music from Nicki and DaBlooze, a fun kids area with inflatables and activities, NASCAR themed airbrush face painting for all ages, food, a silent auction to benefit the Special Olypmics, and much more! Drivers Jeremy Clements and Tayler Malsam will aslo be stopping by the festival for radio interviews. The haulers will leave from the Florence Civic Center, swing through the Darlington Square where RaceFest will be taking place, and then head to the track! The haulers will start the parade route at 7pm so be sure to stop by the Civic Center and get your picture taken with your favorite teams' hauler. The festival is FREE and the fun starts at 4pm tomorrow!

Start your engines! - Day 129




It is Race Week folks! There are plenty of race-related things to do this week to keep you busy until Saturday night's big race. But don't forget about Friday! The VFW Sports Clips Help A Hero 200 takes place on Friday night under the lights, but your ticket to the race also includes admission to the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide practice Friday morning and qualifying for the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series in the afternoon! Tickets for Friday start as low as $30 and kids under 17 are FREE in the general seating area. So if you really want to pack in all of the racing you can handle, you can start Friday morning at the track "Too Tough to Tame!" May Pops Concert- Day 128


The Florence Symphony Orchestra will present their May POPS concert tonight at the FMU Performing Arts Center. The concert will feature the Florence Men's Choral Society and will begin at 7:30pm. Tickets start at just $18! At the POPS concert you will enjoy classics such as Mozart's Masonic Cantata, a Phantom of the Opera medley, and The Awakening. This will be the last performance of the season for the Florence Symphony Orchestra until the fall so don't miss your chance to hear this wonderful performance from the FSO and the Florence Men's Choral Society. With Mother's Day just over a week away, and the Bojangles Southern 500 the day before, the special occasion might have snuck up on you. Don't worry! You can swing by the Pee Dee State Farmers Market Friday and Saturday to pick up the perfect gift for the mom in your life on your way to the track! Try a hanging basket for her front porch or a blooming rose bush for her flower garden. Don't forget you can pick up your boiled peanuts for the race while you are there, too. The hours for Racing to the Market are Friday and Saturday are 8am-6pm.

Annie Jr. Auditions - Day 126










Auditions for Annie Jr. will be held at the Florence Little Theater on Sunday, May 6th at 3pm for the role of Annie herself. The child must be between grades 3 and 6. Wednesday, May 9th at 7pm and Saturday, May 12th at 3pm, auditions for other roles will be held. The production dates for Annie Jr. will be July 13-15 and July 20-22. No experience is needed to audition and all materials for the audition will be provided. All auditions will be held at the Florence Little Theater.

Catie Curtis - Day 125




Don't miss a performance by Catie Curtis at the FMU PAC on May 10th at 7:30pm. You can get tickets from the box office for $20 for adults/ $10 for students. In the fall of 2008 she released the critically acclaimed Sweet Life, an album dedicated to Lynne Ramsdell, the neighbor who gave Catie her first guitar.

3rd Annual Florence Beer Fest - Day 124






Saturday evening you can sample plenty of unique regional and Southern beers at the 3rd Annual Florence Beer Fest. Along with beer samples, your ticket will get you a commemorative pint glass and plenty of food from Apple Annie's, Southern Hops Brewing Co. and Harry and Harry Two's of Bishopville. The beer fest will be held from 1-5pm at the Palmetto Peddlers Antique Mall. Your ticket will also cover your shuttle home or to Apple Annie's where the fun will continue with live music. Tickets are $40 a piece or $70 per couple and proceeds will be divided between local charities like Keep Florence Beautiful and the Florence Literacy Council. Tickets are available at both Micky Finn's locations.

How fast can you change a tire? - Day 123







Stop by the Walmart on South Irby street in Florence tomorrow to find out! The Coke Tire Changing Competition/ Pit Crew Challenge will be held Thursday from 12:30-6:30pm. You can also check it out at Walmart on Beltline Friday afternoon.This interactive tire changing kiosk is part of the great lineup that Walmart is offering this year for RaceWeek. For this FREE challenge, you can race against the clock or your opponent to see if you are the fastest to change the Good Year tire. If you are there while the radio station is broadcasting live, you might just win your choice of tickets to the race next weekend or other cool NASCAR gifts!

30th Annual Greek Festival - Day 122




The fun festivities of the annual Greek Festival begin on Thursday at the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church. Experience the culture, heritage and traditions of Greece with tons of fabulous food, dance performances, music, and did I mention the food?

The kids activities are always a highlight of the festival with bouncy houses and rides to keep the kids entertained for hours. Church tours will be offered daily and if you don't have to time to dine at the festival, you can always drive through to pick up your lunch or dinner. Hours for the festival are Thursday and Friday, 11am-8pm and Saturday 11am-9pm. Drive through hours are 11am-2pm and 4pm-8pm on Thursday and Friday. The drive through is open all day on Saturday.
